Californio Style Horsemanship Clinic with a emphasis on the Hackamore and how this style relates to Classical riding.

We have students from different disciplines so this will be a fun clinic to see how everything can fit in especially when there is an emphasis on lightness through the aids. (Doing less to get more.)

Pitchfork Ranch

May 7~8th 2022 in Leona Valley, Ca

Phone 661-916-4271 for info or to join.

California Style Horsemanship and Stock Handing.

The horsemanship portion of the clinic will focus on doing less to get more, the timing and placement of the feet through body posture, rein handling, intention, and how these things affect the horse and rider.

The class will emphasize rein refinement and how to obtain lightness through a reduction of the aids.

Students will also learn how the applied methods relate to working cattle and how riders can use methods for any other discipline that they want to do with their horse.

Cody will cover traditional methods with traditional equipment, although it is unnecessary for everyone to ride in a Hackamore or Bridle bit.

Snaffle bits are welcome (or bring what you ride them in with an opportunity to try out other gear.)

This class is for everyone, and each person will be helped with their unique level of understanding.

Cody is known for ensuring people get individual attention suited to fit their own needs.

What the students have learned in the Horsemanship will then be applied when working cattle, individually and with teams of riders.

The cattle working portion of the clinic will consist of learning cattle behavior so that the person can then predictably read cattle.

Learn why the rider's position is so crucial so that you can influence the cow's movement to go anywhere

Students will learn how to control the speed and direction of the cow's feet through position in coordination with the use of concepts such as drive, draw, fade, and blending in.

Riders will be given jobs to do with the cattle. Cody is very adamant about making sure that people are not just standing around by making the cattle work a team effort.

From Single cow tracking to Rodear herd work, many elements of working cattle will be covered.

Horsemanship Workshop

Cavvietta QuarterHorse & Cattle Co.

March 25~27th 2022 in Elm City, North Carolina

The All Skills Workshop in the style and tradition of the Californio methods: starting horses in the Hackamore and advancing them to the two-rein and then straight up in the bridle while using day-to-day ranching skills to create a true reined partner.

Included in this is the introduction to cattle work with horses that might not have been on cattle before to advanced horse and rider teams that want more things to do and work on advancing their cattle working ability.
(No prior cattle work experience necessary.)

Elements of tracking, sorting, and parting out cattle and herd work and roping (roping is optional).

In this three-day course, we will start on the ground with our horses learning traditional groundwork methods that will carry over to the riding.

These methods have nothing to do with drilling a horse repeatedly but have everything to do with feel and approach.

Kylie McElligott Mitchell, Queensland, Australia

“Would totally recommend Cody’s workshops to anyone who would like to further their horsemanship. He is super knowledgeable and is good at breaking things down in a way that makes them understandable and easy to execute. Riding with him for a few days left me with a lot of takeaway and I plan on attending more of his workshops in the future!”
